TiVo Serves Cold Beer Hosted on Zooomr

For those who’ve been long time followers of TiVo you know that they launched TiVo on a blue moon. The date itself holds such significance to TiVo’s founders that it’s become a company holiday and if you ever spend any time with anyone who was there when the launch took place, they still turn nostalgic and misty eye if you start singing the song.

TiVo employees have always been know to work on side projects and in fact even the rudimentary games they feature today was originally a labor of love. While most of what they work on internally never publically surfaces, once in a blue moon something pops up that was likely never meant to be made public. Such is the case with the latest video discovered on TiVo’s website.

The video itself was originally discovered by one of the many passionate fans on the TiVo community forum and it is perhaps one of the most creative and entertaining commercials I have ever seen. In the commercial, it explores the true orgins of TiVo’s creation and offers further proof that TiVo’s technology truly is out of this world. It also hints at enhanced functionality, although for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to get my TiVo to serve up the cold beer. While I doubt that we’ll ever see TiVo run this as a 30 second ad on one of the networks, with the power of the internet you can still enjoy it today.

Hat Tip to MegaZone for pointing it out.

Update - The video on TiVo’s website takes a pretty long time to download, but you can see it on You Tube here.

Update #2 - I was wrong about this being an insider video and it turns out the whole thing is really part of a larger marketing campaign.

  3. what’s TiVo?

  4. […] When I first saw TiVo’s Blue Moon video, I knew that there was a good chance that it was a viral advertisement, but the more I watched the film, the more I became convinced that it was an inside joke. The film made no mention of the series 3 and I assumed that it had been posted on TiVo’s website for a long time and was finally unearthed by a die hard fan. As it turns out though, TiVo isn’t very good at keeping secrets and we now know that the video really is part of a viral marketing campaign. The secret was accidently revealed when an individual on Myspace had written that she had helped with the wardrobe for the film earlier this year and then linked to the Youtube video of the film and to a “fan” website called TiVoisaliens.com.
