Video: Mustang Spin in Police Chase
One of the things I miss about not living in Los Angeles is that I don’t get to see car chases anymore. In LA, they have a car chase on the local news at least once a month, in fact when I lived there a friend of mine was actually registered with a service that would page him whenever there was one on TV and he’d call me everytime one hit the local news. It’s like an unofficial local sport for LA.
The great part about them is that you never know how they’ll end. Normally, they last an hour or two before a car will start breaking down or before the police are able to pin the driver in. Sometimes there are spectacular crashes and sometimes some pretty desperate moves by the criminals, but most of the time they end peacefully in a cloud of smoke after the police take out the tires with a spike strip. I’m sure that some people may end up getting away in chases, but by the time they hit the news I’ve never seen anyone actually get away.
Once they do catch you, they not only book you with a felony for evading arrest, but they also cite you for every traffic law that you broke. While the above clip doesn’t possess the X factor of a live chase or the emotional connection that you form after watching a two hour chase end, it’s still nice to know that through the magic of the internet, I can still tune in to a good car chase every once in a while.
