Honda Wants You To Meet The Jetsons

When I was a kid I always wanted to be a pilot. For years I couldn’t get the dream of being able to fly out of my mind. At one point my best friend and I both decided that we were going to build our own airplanes since our parents told us that we couldn’t buy one.

He built his plane out of wood, but I knew wood would be too heavy and made a cardboard glider instead. When we went to test our contraptions, I should have know it was a bad idea when his wood glider didn’t make it more then three feet, but I had faith in my cardboard Cesna because it was lighter. Long story short, I found out the hard way that cardboard isn’t much better then wood when it comes to building an airplane.

After that, I was still interested in flying, but after I learned that they didn’t grant commercial pilot licenses if you were color blind, I gave up on my dream and moved on to something else instead.

Here in the bay area, there is a flight school where for $1,000 per month they’ll teach you to fly and will help you get your pilot’s licence. If it wasn’t for the steep price tags on the planes, I would probably consider this more seriously, but even little Cesna’s cost a pretty penny. Nontheless, I’m still interested in planes and so I was surprised to find out that Honda, of all companies, has decided to make their own jets and has already sold 100 of them at a price tag of $3.65 million a piece.

Looking over the press release I can tell that these are going to be high end and I’ve got to admit that they look really hot. They only fit 6 people, so even if you flew it with the maximum capacity 365 days a year, it would still take over 5 and a half years before it would be cheaper to own then to just pay $300 for coach airline tickets, but I’m pretty sure that Honda isn’t going after the market that flies couch with these planes. While I somehow doubt that it will ever be in my budget, if I was a Gazillionaire, I’d be the first guy on my block to get one of these things.
