The content protection in question here is CGMS-A. Analog, not digital. Media Center has supported CGMS-A since the first version in 2002. As of recent, several Canadian Telco's in specific have either enabled CGMS-A on their broadcasts or have set their STB's to add CGMS-A (generally Copy Never) before it's output from the box. Digital cable isn't in question. Digital cable output through an analog connection is.

I don't understand this story - nor the other similar stories I've read on the net. There is no cablecard mandate in Canada. How are these Canadians copying these shows on their Vista machines to begin with? Encrypted digital cable can't be copied to begin with. Most digital cable stations are encrypted. Are people saying they are having issues copying analogue shows off cable. So far I'm having ZERO problems with any of my TiVos (I use both an S1 and an S3 to record analogue from Rogers cable). I use an S1 to record digital channels (converted to analogue).

I'd be very interested to know what, specifically, these Canadians cannot record on Vista. Anyone that had the expectation to record digital cable onto a Vista machine is misguided - that was NEVER going to be possible without Canada adopting/mandating the cablecard - which is not even on the Canadian legislative/regulatory radar.
