That was a great article. It's so true that a number of years ago now I found the idea of a DVD player that would play DIVX files very appealing. In fact I sought out a player that had it as a prime buying factor. I had a lot of media that I didn't want to watch on my PC and this would set it free to my TV. Of course now it's not such a large issue with lots of streaming network appliances and consoles but there is now a new need.

As you state in your article, I now have a lot of MKV files that I want to watch without transcoding them first. Obviously something like the Playstation 3 is capable of playing them technically but Sony have a political grudge against the codec (probably justified). If I could buy my next flatscreen TV with the inbuilt ability to stream MKV files from the network through a DIVX embedded function, then I would definitely seek out that TV over other brands.

I (and thousands of others) have a need - all DIVX has to do is give us the answer to that need.

As a former employee and current [underwater] stockholder, I'd like to say that your article resonated with me. Very good job. When you look at the current management, the problem is very clear. I hate to say it, but anyone with any intelligence and with other work options has already left. Besides all the founders leaving, they've gone through 2 CTOs, and multiple VPs over the last two years. Chris Russel, the previous CTO was responsible for paving the way for the current Studio deals and without him they will not generate more. Anyway, I should stop before I become overly engrossed. My parting shot: replace Mr. Hell with a new CEO, implement some of the other changes that you outlined, and it may work.
