Of course I watch a ton of TV and spent many nights sleeping with it on, so I' probably used more lamp light than most. I've also had a problem with electrical surges in my house and am not sure whether or not that contributed to it. Around the same time my TV lamp went out, I also blew the power supply on my TiVo, Xbox360 and Home PC. Since fixing my TV I've added a UPS connection just in case that was what blew the lamp. I originally bought my TV in late 2005, so it was about five years old when it went out. The one I have isn't an official Sony lamp, but given how bad Sony is at making things I didn't feel like I was giving up much by not getting the brand name. With shipping and taxes it ended up costing $119 vs. the $300 + the cost of the lamp that the TV repair guy originally quoted me.
